Tips mentioned:

  • Shop at your regular grocery store for essentials like spinach, potatoes, etc. and only shop health food stores for harder to find items like nutritional yeast, meat alternatives, etc.

  • Get your butt in the kitchen and cook

  • Plan for leftovers -- I usually plan 4-5 dinners each week then stretch those out to save money and time

  • Just because you're eating vegan, it doesn't mean everything has to be organic --- buy what you can afford. Check out the Environmental Working Group's list of produce that are sprayed the most.

  • Keep it simple. There's no need to be a gourmet chef every night. Simple meals like tacos, spaghetti, and stew are simple and filling. Save the elaborate meals for the weekend.

  • Plan your meals

One of the most common questions I get is, "how to get rid of dairy and/or eggs?"

The good news is, you don't have to eliminate all of your dairy products overnight.

You can begin by just replacing your cow's milk and butter with plant-based milk (almond, coconut, cashew, etc.) and vegan margarine (Earth Balance & Smart Balance are popular brands).

4 Reasons You Don't Need Dairy:

How to use plant-based dairy and vegan margarine:

  • Plant-based milk (almond, coconut, cashew, soymilk, rice, etc) can be used in cereal, oatmeal, cooking, smoothies, etc.

  • Vegan margarine can be used on toast, cooking, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.

Where can I buy these products? You can buy plant-based milk in most grocery stores these days. Check out Earth Balance and Smart Balance websites to locate these products near you.

Remember, it doesn't have to be all or nothing to get started! Make gradual shifts and keep on moving forward.

Here are 2 mistakes people make when they want to be vegan:

  • Expecting everything to always be perfect

  • Giving up on the journey too soon

The truth is, I'm not a "perfect" vegan. If you've been following me for a while, you already know this (if you're new here, hey boo hey!).

The only difference between me and ex-vegans is that I kept going!

Even when I was depressed, was binging on non-vegan crappy food, and barely cooked for months at a time, I always found a way to get back on track.

We're human, and the only thing we can do is strive to be our best every. single. day.

I'm not writing all of this to give you an excuse to not embrace vegan life.

I just want to make sure you know I understand your pain and struggles about wanting to maintain this lifestyle, and how other factors can make you second guess your decision. I've been there!

In my latest podcast episode, I give you five tips to get back on track if you've been struggling to make vegan life work for you.

With everything I do, I strive to help as many everyday people embrace vegan meals and life in the most down-to-earth way possible.

I hope this podcast episode inspires you to take action and get back on track!

  • Get clear on your why

  • Start replacing your struggle ingredients with vegan options

  • Make vegan life a priority -- meal planning, research, look for recipes, grocery shopping

  • Reflect and change things in your personal life, so that you can move forward

  • Stop beating yourself up
